[Renal digital angiography in the study of hypertensive patients]. / La angiografía digital renal en el estudio de pacientes hipertensos.

50 patients, 31 male and 19 female with mean age of 45.1 +/- 9.4 years afflicted with blood hypertension (BH) were studied. RDA was performed on all of them as part of the etiological study. The variables evaluated were: systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), therapy index (TI), evolution time of its BH and type of BH (refractory BH, severe BH, mild-moderate BH). The organ affliction was also evaluated (renal function, ECG, presence of cardiomyopathy, vascular disease, and retinopathy. RDA alteration appeared in 16 cases, 1 (10%) in refractory BH group, 8 (28.6%) in severe BH group, and 7 (58.3%) in mild-moderate BH group. A shorter BH evolution period having been observed in patients with altered RDA than in those with normal RDA (3.49 +/- 3.96 years vs 6.93 +/- 4.68 years p = 0.01). We conclude that only this variable is a feature for suspicion of renovascular BH, without an apparent difference between the results of RDA and those of I.V. urography, obtained during the diagnosis screening. The significant differences observed between the mild-moderate BH and the other groups suggests that the clinical suspicion, and not the severity of the BH, is the point which should determine the patients to be renovascularly explored.

[An analysis of calcium pidolate absorption and a comparison with that of a salt in common use, gluconate-lactate-carbonate, in postmenopausal osteoporosis]. / Análisis de la absorción del pidolato de calcio y comparación con la da una sal de uso común, el glucono-lactato-carbonato, en la osteoporosis postmenopáusica.

The absorption of calcium pidolate is studied in 10 females suffering from osteoporosis by oral overload compared to the results of the glucono-lactate-carbonate. 405 mq of Ca pidolate produced a higher excretion of calcium by urine and an increase of Ca levels in blood than that produced by 1000 mq of Ca glucono-lactate-carbonate. The tolerance and the lack of side effects were the common feature in both salts. There were no effects on parathyroid glands nor bone resorption. We concluded that calcium pidolate is a safe and efficient treatment for osteoporosis because of easy absorption, which is very helpful in maintaining the calcium balance.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty as best treatment in stenosis of vascular access for hemodialysis.

We show the results of treatment with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty on 38 occasions for vascular access for hemodialysis. Our study includes 22 patients with A-V internal fistulas (Cimino type), 1 autologous saphenous vein shunt and 7 synthetic polytetrafluoro-ethylene shunts. Twenty patients have had a follow-up period over 24 months. Four patients required a second and 2 of them a third transluminal dilatation. Only on two occasions were complications related to the technique. The microscopic findings of the venous wall after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty are shown.

Pulmonary nodule simulated on the lateral chest radiograph by branches of the aortic arch.

A prospective study of 500 lateral radiographs of the chest showed a nodular opacity superimposed on the trachea above the aortic arch in 15 patients (3%). Because no abnormalities were identified on the posteroanterior radiograph or on CT scans, we assume that this pseudonodule is produced by branches of the aorta. In all cases, CT showed that the left subclavian artery or the innominate artery-right subclavian complex protruded into the lung.

CT findings in metastatic ovarian tumors from gastrointestinal tract neoplasms (Krukenberg tumors).

The computed tomographic (CT) findings are reviewed in 7 patients with metastatic ovarian tumors from gastrointestinal tract neoplasms (Krukenberg tumors). All patients presented mixed ovarian masses. In 6 cases the masses were mainly cystic, with internal septa and focal or uniform enlargement of the cyst wall. In the seventh patient the ovarian mass appeared on the CT as mainly solid. The size of the neoplasm varied between 5 and 46 cm. Ascites was only seen in 1 case and in another the existence of a primary tumor in the sigmoid colon was demonstrated. In our cases the CT signs of ovarian metastasis were indistinguishable from primary tumors of the ovary.

Anomalous inferior vena cava with lumbar vein thrombosis: CT diagnosis.

A case of thrombosis of the ascending right lumbar vein in a patient with infrahepatic interruption of the inferior vena cava and azygos-hemiazygos continuation is reported and the CT findings are described.

Galactocele: three distinctive radiographic appearances.

Three radiographic appearances of galactocele of the breast not, to our knowledge, described previously in the literature were studied in 11 patients. Mammary nodules with distinct and separate hydro-fat levels were observed in five cases. A nodule containing mixed water and fat densities was seen in one patient, while in the five remaining patients, pneumocystograms revealed masses of a water density mixed with the injected air.
